The Waikanae Dance School Performance Team is a selected group of dancers who have demonstrated key qualities and set themselves high standards to attain in the dance world. They attend extra group classes to learn troupe routines. The school also has a Hip Hop crew which requires the same level of commitment.

During the year the team enters dance competitions around New Zealand and represents the school at public events.

The team consists of up to 10 dancers in each age group minis, juniors, inters and seniors. Existing dancers in the team are entitled to remain in the team the following year if they continue to demonstrate the commitments required of them and their family. 

From 2017 onwards Performance Team members  will be selected based on the following general criteria:

1. Strong and sound work ethic. Commitment of individual to weekly classes. Students will attend  1 cabaret style class per week and are encouraged to attend ballet also. Cabaret is either acrobatics, lyrical, jazz, contemporary, hip hop or tap.  Selected students will have an excellent attendance record throughout the year. Technical abilities of the highest standard will be starting to show through. Students will usually have attended the school for several years.

2. Strong parental support. This will be based on observations from weekly pick ups and parents offers of help at events during the year. This may include parents who are willing to bring children to extra rehearsals, parents videoing with teacher permission examination work in class or asking for additional help in the run up to exams to assist their child in practice at home, helping with costume making, helping with set up before and after events. Generally those who are prepared to "muck in" and deliver quality outputs.

Additionally families will be required to apply to become members of Waikanae Performing Arts Society and to undertake fundraising activities throughout the year. 

The Performance Team will be involved in the following events each year:

1. Other local dance festivals - details are available at the start of each year

2. Waikanae Easter market - Easter Saturday - Mahara Place

3. Waikanae Labour Weekend Market - Labour Weekend Saturday - Mahara Place

4. Other local events to assist in fundraising

5. Other local events to broaden the knowledge in the community of the skills developed within the area by local creative groups

Team members are required to make themselves available for these events

Mini and Junior Performance Teams will attend a 30 minute extra class. Inter and Seniors will attend a 45 - 60minute extra class

Solo, duet and trio dances are subject to additional costs.
